Ousmane Sembene dies
100 Black Screen Icons would like to remember and honour the pioneering and provocative director Ousmane Sembene, who sadly passed away on June 10 in Senegal, aged 84.
Ousmane was the first film director from Africa to gain international recognition and was often described as 'the father of African cinema'. He lived all his life as a novelist, film director, social critic, activist and revolutionary. Read more about Ousmane Sembene here...
